WiFi ADB offers a convenient solution for debugging and testing Android apps directly on your device via a WiFi TCP/IP connection, eliminating the need for a USB cable. Once you enable ADB over WiFi, you can connect your computer to the device by opening the console and running the command:
adb connect <device_ip_address>
FEATURES
- Quickly enable/disable ADB connection over WiFi TCP/IP.
- Auto-enable ADB over WiFi on known WiFi networks.
- A visible ongoing notification reminds users that ADB over WiFi is active and provides an easy way to manually disable it.
- Temporarily extend screen-off timeout. This is particularly useful during Android app development and testing on device. The original screen timeout is restored when ADB over WiFi is disabled.
- Temporarily lock WiFi to prevent it from entering sleep mode. The effectiveness of this feature depends on the device and Android version.
- Serves as a Tasker plugin. Users can configure the Tasker app to automatically enable/disable WiFi ADB based on predefined conditions.
TIPS
- Your computer must have permission to connect to your device over ADB. This permission can be granted when your device is connected via USB cable. This step only needs to be done once.
- If your development computer runs Unix/Linux or Mac, open a console and run the following one-liner command, which will automatically reconnect to the ADB daemon on the phone every time the link is disconnected:
while true ; do adb connect <device_ip_address> ; sleep 15 ; done
If you have control over the WiFi router, we recommend configuring it to assign the device the same IP address every time. You can then assign a local DNS hostname to that IP address, providing an alternative to using the IP address in the adb connect
command in the console.
